Sports Nutritionist Costs?
Location | Average Cost Per Hour |
---|---|
European Union (EU) | ā¬60 – ā¬200 |
Ireland | ā¬80 – ā¬200 |
United Kingdom (UK) | Ā£50 – Ā£150 |
United States (US) | $70 – $250 |
Australia | AUD 90 – AUD 200 |
Depending where you are in the world, the price is going to vary on the nutritionist. But it’s more than just the region. Here’s the other key factors that determine how much they will cost.
What factors influence the price of sports nutritionist?
Experience: More experienced nutritionists tend to charge higher fees due to their expertise, reputation, and proven results working with athletes. (Be very careful in choosing a nutritionist who is qualified with experience vs one who does it on the side of their PT, Physio, day job.)
Online / In-Person: In-person consultations are often more expensive due to travel and facility costs, while online services can be more affordable and convenient for both parties.
1-1 or Group Coaching: One-on-one coaching offers personalized attention and typically costs more, while group sessions can be more cost-effective but provide less individualized support.
Region: Prices vary by geographic location, with higher costs in areas with a higher cost of living or where sports nutrition services are in greater demand.
Ongoing or Once-Off Consultation: Ongoing coaching requires a greater time commitment and provides continuous support, leading to higher overall costs compared to a single one-off consultation.
How much does it cost to work with John Gaule Nutrition?
Prices in the Republic of Ireland for a once-off consultation with a sports nutritionist in Ireland can range anywhere from ā¬80-ā¬200/hour depending on your location.
Considering youāre likely to be seeing your nutritionist weekly or fortnightly, the cost becomes unsustainable after a short period of time. Thatās why I offer coaching where it is ā¬199 or ā¬139 every 4 weeks which works out at ā¬49.75 or ā¬69.59 per consultation + unlimited e-mails between check-ins.

How John Gaule Nutrition Works
If you decide to work with me on an ongoing basis (ie not just a once-off consultation), you can expect:
- Online 1-1 to tailored coaching
- Weekly or bi-weekly check-ins depending on your plan
- Customized plans
- Tools for Sustainability
Online 1-1 Coaching
This give YOU the client and me the coach the flexibility to plan around your schedule. Whether you prefer Whatsapp or Zoom, we can arrange accordingly.
1-1 coaching means that you have someone to guide you and keep you on track. For some clients, in bigger group settings, it’s easy to get lost. With my practice, my priority is making sure you feel comfortable first and foremost. And that we can create a plan together so you can reach your goals sustainably.
For ongoing coaching, I ask for a minimum of a 12 weeks commitment. Why? Because this:
- Gives you the time and space to get used to new nutrition approaches
- Gives adequate time to make long-lasting changes & habits (book recommendation: Atomic Habits)
- See enough time to course-correct to your schedule and life.
Weekly & Bi-Weekly Check-ins
These are what they say on the tin. Once a week or every 2 weeks, you check in with me. Here we take into account key aspects like:
- What you ate for the week
- Your energy levels
- Your Sleep
- Your Weight & Circumference Measurements*
- Performance – e.g Training
- Obstacles you faced over the last week/fortnight
- Your goal(s) for the next week/fortnight
Check-ins give accountability and keep you on track.
Which is better? Weekly or bi-weekly?
It depends on your:
- Schedule
- Budget
- Level and experience
If youāre limited by time and already have a solid grasp of nutrition, then bi-weekly check-ins might be the way to go. However if you want more regular accountability, then weekly might suit best.Ā
Ultimately both plans help get you to where you want to go – but weekly check-ins generally edge it if speed and faster learning on your part is an important factor.
Video Calls
This is not set in stone. We can do phone calls via whatsapp also.
Customized Plans
With my practice, you will never eat anything that you hate. I work around your schedule & your preferences. We can find alternatives. Whether that is through diet or supplementation, we will put together a plan that works for you.
Tools for sustainability
My ultimate goal is to set you up for long-term success in both your health and your sport.
A Year from now. 5 years from now.Ā
The problem with a lot of weight loss/gain plans is that you might change weight quickly. But you don’t have the tools and the core lifestyle changes in place to maintain them for the long-run.
Here we build a solid foundation. And if you can start thinking in terms of months and years instead of just days and weeks, you will set yourself up for long-term success.Ā
It’s a bit like compound interest and investing. At the start, it may feel slow – but you are doing the necessary groundwork. But overtime, you get stronger, wiser and more disciplined. Youāll see a difference after a month. But youāll see a massive difference after a year. That is a process you can’t cheat.
(However, that;’s not to say we won’t aim to hit the ground running and I’ve had many clients where the effects are instant; depending on their situation).
So Is it Worth Hiring a Sports Nutritionist?
Hiring a sports nutritionist can be one of the best investments an athlete makes. Sports nutrition goes beyond general dietary advice. These experts tailor nutrition plans based on your specific goalsāwhether you’re training for a triathlon, preparing for an Ironman, or looking to build muscle or lose weight.
The benefits include:
- Customized meal plans: Tailored to your performance goals and dietary preferences.
- Expert guidance: Advice on hydration, supplementation, and macronutrient distribution based on your activity level and body composition.
- Accountability: Ongoing coaching can help keep you on track and adapt your plan as your goals change.
For serious athletes, hiring a sports nutritionist is often considered an investment in better performance, faster recovery, and injury prevention. Many athletes see noticeable improvements in energy levels, muscle gain, fat loss, and endurance when working with a nutritionist.
